Mood swings

An invisible sign of depression can be a fluctuation in your emotions. Mood swings are emotional disturbances with both highs and lows, together with long periods of excessive sadness.

Experiencing lasting low mood is the most important sign of depression, it is persistent and characterised by sadness, loneliness, and despair. This is often accompanied by:

  • loss of interest in activities,
  • sleep disturbance,
  • unintentional weight loss/gain,
  • tiredness,
  • and a sense of worthlessness.
