If you’re worried about any changes to your breasts, you don’t need to have a GP referral to use this service. Just check you have the appropriate cover for outpatient specialist consultations and diagnostic tests, which you will find on your membership certificate in your online account or in the documents you received when you joined.
Call us on your claims number which you can find in your handbook or log in to your online account. Click on the ‘Contact us’ tab from your homepage where you’ll locate your claims number, and we’ll ask you a few questions to understand what’s causing you concern.
Log inWe’ll offer you an appointment with our breast cancer diagnostic service provider Check4Cancer if it’s appropriate. We’ll also explain how using this service would impact any outpatient limit, No Claims Discount or contribution you normally make towards treatment each year.
We can normally offer you an appointment within 5 working days of your call. And we’ll give you a choice of the location and date of your appointment, so you can attend when's easiest for you.
You’ll receive a ‘one stop’ assessment with a nurse who’ll perform a clinical examination. If necessary, they can then arrange for any further diagnostic tests with a specialist such as a mammogram and/or an ultrasound scan or biopsies.
The tests will then be sent off for analysis and reviewed by the Check4Cancer specialists.
Test results will typically be back within 5 working days. If further treatment is required, a nurse will give you a call to explain the results and we’ll arrange any onward appointments for you.

If you’ve received confirmation that you’ve a raised PSA level, for example, through a check-up with your GP or as a result of a health screening, you may need to see a specialist for further investigation.

The Check4Cancer team will guide you through the next steps. They’ll book either a multi-parametric MRI scan or a consultation, to help you get a diagnosis as quickly as possible
If you’re worried about any changes to your breasts or skin or have been told you have raised PSA levels, you could use these diagnostic services with Check4Cancer without always needing a GP referral first. Simply give us a call and we’ll ask you a few questions to understand what's causing your concern. If it's appropriate and you’re eligible, we’ll offer you an appointment with Check4Cancer, a provider of early cancer detection.
If your concern isn’t related to changes in your breasts or skin or you don’t have raised PSA levels, please speak to your GP. You can speak to a qualified GP or Advanced Nurse Practitioner with AXA Health’s online GP service, powered by Doctor Care Anywhere. GPs are available 24 hours a day and Advanced Nurse Practitioners are available from 8am-10pm (subject to appointment availability). Please check your membership documents to see whether you have access to this service.

You can contact us Monday – Friday 8am – 8pm and Saturdays 9am – 5pm. We’ll be able to check whether this service is appropriate for you and you're eligible. Once confirmed, the team will liaise with Check4Cancer to organise an appointment for you – either by transferring your call directly to the team or organising a call back via Check4Cancer the next working day.

If you have an excess or No Claims Discount (NCD), yes. Using the cancer diagnostic pathways with Check4Cancer will impact any excess, NCD discount or any contribution you usually make towards treatment each year. You can find these details in your membership documents, which you can find in your online account or in the documents you received when you joined.
The breast, skin and prostate diagnostics pathways are available to all AXA Health members with healthcare benefits for outpatient specialist consultations and diagnostics tests. If you work for a large business (usually 250 plus employees), check to see if your employer has selected the Check4Cancer service by referring to your handbook, which you can find in your online account or in the documents you received when you joined.
Accessing this service is subject to your underwriting, so please check your membership certificate and handbook for details of how your membership covers existing conditions/symptoms.
