Breast symptoms

If you’re worried about any changes to your breasts, you don’t need to have a GP referral to use this service. Just check you have the appropriate cover for outpatient specialist consultations and diagnostic tests, which you will find on your membership certificate in your online account or in the documents you received when you joined.

How does it work?

Call us on your claims number which you can find in your handbook or log in to your online account. Click on the ‘Contact us’ tab from your homepage where you’ll locate your claims number, and we’ll ask you a few questions to understand what’s causing you concern.

We’ll offer you an appointment with our breast cancer diagnostic service provider Check4Cancer if it’s appropriate. We’ll also explain how using this service would impact any outpatient limit, No Claims Discount or contribution you normally make towards treatment each year.

Your appointment

We can normally offer you an appointment within 5 working days of your call. And we’ll give you a choice of the location and date of your appointment, so you can attend when's easiest for you.

You’ll receive a ‘one stop’ assessment with a nurse who’ll perform a clinical examination. If necessary, they can then arrange for any further diagnostic tests with a specialist such as a mammogram and/or an ultrasound scan or biopsies. The tests will then be sent off for analysis and reviewed by the Check4Cancer specialists.

Test results will typically be back within 5 working days. If further treatment is required, a nurse will give you a call to explain the results and we’ll arrange any onward appointments for you.

Prostate - raised PSA level

If you’ve received confirmation that you’ve a raised PSA level, for example, through a check-up with your GP or as a result of a health screening, you may need to see a specialist for further investigation.

The Check4Cancer team will guide you through the next steps. They’ll book either a multi-parametric MRI scan or a consultation, to help you get a diagnosis as quickly as possible
