Empty Seat

An empty seat can be full of meaning. It could mean that someone is experiencing one of the common symptoms of depression – loss of pleasure in leisure activities. Whether that’s watching their favourite players at Anfield Stadium or kicking a ball around with their friends in the park, withdrawing from leisure activities often goes undetected as a sign that someone is experiencing a mental health disorder.

Barry is a lifelong Liverpool Football Club (LFC) fan who has experienced anxiety and depression which surfaced during lockdown. Barry joined a local support group where he met likeminded people who have similarly struggled with a variety of mental health issues. We introduced him to some of his favourite LFC players to find out a little more about his journey.

“I did not realise what was going on, but I was losing my motivation for football."
