AXA Doctor at Hand online GP appointments
Imagine, after a long day making big decisions for your business, you get home late and can still have that GP appointment you need. Imagine being able to book an appointment during the working day that suits your schedule, not your surgery’s. Imagine you need a prescription ahead of your business trip abroad. Our online GP service, which is included as standard with our business healthcare cover, helps make these scenarios a reality.
No physical waiting room, the doctor will see you now
At AXA Health we’ve imagined it all. It’s why we developed our AXA Doctor at Hand service, powered by Doctor Care Anywhere.
- With AXA Doctor at Hand, appointments are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year.
- Appointments are usually available within 24 hours.
- GPs are available 24/7 and other registered clinical practitioners (RCPs) are available from 8am-10pm.
- Say goodbye to rushed appointments – each one is long enough to give your employees plenty of time to talk about their health concerns.
- Just book online or use the app.
- GPs and other registered clinicial practitioners can refer to a specialist* if that’s what’s needed (subject to the cover options you include with your plan).
- If you need a prescription, you can choose to have it delivered to a local chemist or straight to your door (see cost details below).
We know how important it is for you and your people to be able to manage your health, so AXA Doctor at Hand is included regardless of the cover options that you choose. If you want the same freedom and flexibility with your face-to-face GP appointments, we’ve thought of that too – just select our Private GP option.
How it works
Convenient video or phone appointments
Once you’ve activated your AXA Doctor at Hand account, book an appointment online or through a convenient app. You or your employees could speak to a doctor or another registered clinical practitioner within hours. You’ll chat by video or phone wherever suits you.
24/7 GP access
You and your team can talk to a GP 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year (subject to availability). Everyone can now fit appointments around their work. Registered clinical pracitioners are available 8am -10pm.
Referrals to specialists
All GPs and RCPS are fully qualified and registered with the appropriate regulatory bodies. This may include the General Medical Council (GMC), Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC), Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC), or other relevant organisations depending on their profession. They’ll be able to discuss problems you or your employees have and recommend treatment. They can also make referrals to private specialists.*
Flexible AXA Doctor at Hand consultations
Your employees will love the freedom and convenience of this service. It’s been built around helping them and any members of their family they include on their healthcare plan to stay fit and well, in and outside of work.
Everything your team needs
With your online account, everything you and your team need is in one place. You can book an appointment to see a healthcare professional, with specialist referrals sent straight to our booking team. We upload your appointment notes to your patient record. With your permission, Doctor Care Anywhere can also update your regular GP.
Convenient prescription service
If you need a prescription, you can have this delivered to your door or the nearest pharmacy, whichever is the most convenient. Prescriptions are available in most circumstances and in the UK only. The costs of prescriptions and deliveries are not covered by the plan and may be higher than NHS costs.
*Important information about referrals:
Specialist consultations: All referrals and treatment recommended are on a private basis. The GPs and registered clinical practitioners are unable to refer to the NHS. So you would need to include an Outpatient option or the Diagnostics Only option on your plan for the referral to be covered. Any outpatient limits or excess would apply.
Access to our online GP service comes as standard

Face-to-face appointments with a private GP
Today, we need our health to fit around our busy lives, not the other way around. That’s why we’ve also made it easy for you and your employees to see a private GP in person promptly when you or one of your team members becomes ill, at a time that’s convenient for you – and your business.
