Extended cover option

For even more freedom about where to have treatment, choose Extended Cover. You and your team members won’t be limited to the facilities in our directory, making your cover even more convenient.  

We’ll also take care of fees for any planned, pre-approved treatment you or your team members choose to have outside the UK, up to the cost that we would pay for equivalent treatment at home. And it also means we’re ready to help with the routine management of chronic conditions like asthma, diabetes and epilepsy. 

The Extended Cover option is only available where the Treatment or Diagnostics Only option is included as part of your plan.

Greater flexibility and choice

  • Cover for treatment at your preferred UK facility, even if it’s not in our Directory of Hospitals.
  • Cover for treatment by a greater range of fee-limited specialists.
  • Cover for planned, pre-approved treatment outside of the UK, up to the cost we would pay for the equivalent treatment in the UK.
  • Cover for chronic conditions such as asthma, diabetes or epilepsy – including fees for outpatient consultations and diagnostic tests with a specialist for the purpose of monitoring the condition.

Judy owns a successful small business, a law firm, and employs a team of 10. She’s been referred for hip replacement surgery and won’t be able to return to work until she’s had the surgery and recovered from it. Being able to have the surgery privately means she can skip the waiting list and reduce her time away from work, which she’s pleased about. 

Judy’s sister in law had the same procedure carried out at a private hospital near to her home last year and had a very positive experience. Judy would like to be treated there too. Looking at our Directory of Hospitals, she notices that the hospital she wants to use isn’t listed. However, as part of her small business healthcare plan, she has Extended Cover, which means we’ll pay her fees up to the normal daily rates published and charged by the facility.

What this option will pay for

  • Treatment at the facility of your choice: we’ll pay all costs up to the normal daily rates charged by the UK hospital, day-patient unit or scanning centre not in our Directory of Hospitals that you or your team member chooses.
  • Planned, pre-approved treatment abroad: up to the cost we’d pay for equivalent treatment in the UK.
  • A wider choice of fee-limited specialists: we’ll pay up to the agreed rates for appointments with a wider range of specialists.
  • Routine care for chronic conditions: with Extended Cover we can pay for management of chronic health issues like asthma, diabetes, epilepsy, osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis or thyroid problems.

Regardless of the cover options that you choose, you'll have access to the following included as standard:

  • AXA Doctor at Hand - Unlimited access to our 24/7 online GP service, AXA Doctor at Hand (powered by Doctor Care Anywhere). Appointments are subject to availability. Doctor Care Anywhere fair usage policy applies.
  • Working Body - Our Working Body service gives you and your team aged 18 and over access to a physiotherapist over the phone, without the need for a GP referral.
  • Health at Hand - our telephone helpline is open 24/7 for health information and support from nurses and counsellors. Midwives and pharmacists are available from 8am-8pm Monday to Friday, until 4pm on Saturday, and until 12pm on Sunday.
  • Heart and cancer nurses - available by phone, who are experienced in supporting you and your family when living with these conditions.
  • Proactive Health Gateway - our online platform giving you and your team access to wellbeing support that's tailored to their individual goals. They can use the AXA Health Age calculator to find out their 'Health Age' and follow in-depth guidance and make suggested changes to get healthier.
  • Healthy rewards - including discounted gym membership.
