Outpatient option

In a small business, everyone plays a crucial role. So just one person being off for a while can make it hard for you and your team to keep to the commitments you’ve made. And that can increase the pressure on you all and affect your business plans.

Getting people back on their feet quickly if they become unwell is one of the ways you can show your employees that you really value what they do for you. With our Outpatient option, your employees will be seen quickly by the right specialist at a time and place that works for them. They’ll feel supported, and you’ll be going that extra mile to keep them – and your business – up and running.

An Outpatient option should be selected if you have chosen the Treatment option and would like to have outpatient cover for specialist consultations and diagnostic tests.

Reducing waiting times

  • Bypass outpatient NHS waiting times. Our Fast Track Appointments team will arrange an appointment with a specialist that’s convenient for your employee, near home or work, at a time that works for them.
  • Choose from three different levels of cover to match your budget: no yearly limit on outpatient consultations, up to four appointments a year, or up to two.
  • If you’re covering six or more staff, you can vary the health benefits you offer for employees.

Keeping your business running

Michael is 52 and owns his own plumbing business in Surrey which employs one other person. Michael’s business is very well known in the area and, as a result, they’re often fully booked months in advance. As there are only two of them in the business, Michael understands how difficult it would be to cover the workflow if he or his employee were unable to work due to ill health. That’s why Michael has opted for the Full Outpatient option on his business health insurance. If either of them becomes unwell, once they have a GP referral, they’ll be able to see an appropriate specialist quickly without waiting around, lessening any impact on their ability to get well again – and helping his company stay afloat.

What this option will pay for

  • Specialist consultations: up to two (Standard), four (Enhanced) or no limit (Full) each year.
  • Diagnostic tests: no limit on these when your employee’s specialist refers them.
  • Fees for practitioners (with Enhanced or Full Outpatient cover): no yearly limit on fees for nurses, dieticians, orthoptists,speech therapists and audiologists.

  • Doctor@Hand - Unlimited access to our 24/7 online GP service, Doctor@Hand (provided by Doctor Care Anywhere). Appointments are subject to availability. Fair usage policy applies.
  • Working Body - Our Working Body service gives you and your team aged 18 and over access to a physiotherapist over the phone, without the need for a GP referral.
  • Health at Hand - our telephone helpline is open 24/7 for health information and support from nurses and counsellors. Midwives and pharmacists are available from 8am-8pm Monday to Friday, until 4pm on Saturday, and until 12pm on Sunday.
  • Heart and cancer nurses - available by phone, who are experienced in supporting you and your family when living with these conditions.
  • Proactive Health Gateway - our online platform giving you and your team access to wellbeing support that's tailored to their individual goals. They can use the AXA Health Age calculator to find out their 'Health Age' and follow in-depth guidance and make suggested changes to get healthier.
  • Healthy rewards - including discounts across products at ActivePlus, our online health store.
