These cookies are low in fat, saturates and salt, meaning they are heart healthy! Too much saturated fat in our diet can lead to increased cholesterol levels and this can increase our chances of heart disease, as the cholesterol can build up in our arteries.
Oats also make a great base when looking to add beneficial nutrients to your baking as they are high in fibre and rich in antioxidants. They are also a good source of carbohydrates that offer a slower release of energy.
Makes 15 servings
Preparation Time: 10 minutes
Cooking Time: 20 minutes
- 2 tsp cinnamon
- 1 tsp ground ginger
- 1 tsp ground nutmeg
- 165g oats
- 2 ripe bananas
- 25g flaked almonds
Preheat the oven to 180C.
Peel the banana and mash with a fork and then mix in the oats, cinnamon, ginger and nutmeg.
Line an oven tray with parchment paper and place 15 cookies onto the tray from the mixture.
Press the cookies down a little and decorate with almond flakes before putting into the oven.
Bake for 15-20 minutes but regularly check them in the last 5 minutes to ensure they don’t burn.
Remove from the oven and let them cool on a cooling rack, once they’ve cooled down, they are ready to eat.
