Mulled Cranberry and Pomegranate Jelly

12 December 2023

Try our mulled cranberry and pomegranate jelly recipe - the perfect winter spiced jelly to enjoy this festive season with all of the mulling spices, just without the alcohol.

Nutritional highlights

This merry jelly counts towards one of our five a day thanks to the fruit juices! Eating our 5 a day can help to reduce our risks of heart disease, stroke and some types of cancer.

Both juices provide us with antioxidants which can help protect our cells from free radical damage which could lead to cancer. Pomegranate juice in particular has more antioxidants than green tea.

Both juices are also great sources of vitamin C and E meaning they help keep our cells, skin, bones, blood vessels, eyes and immune system healthy.

Ingredients

Makes 4 servings

Preparation time: 5 minutes

Cooking time: 25 minutes + 4 hours set

  • 350ml pomegranate juice
  • 350ml cranberry juice
  • 400ml water
  • Gelatine (enough gelatine to make 2 pints)
  • 4 cloves
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 2 star anise
  • ½ orange sliced

Method

Add all the ingredients except for the gelatine to a large saucepan and bring to a very low boil on medium to high heat.

Turn heat to low and steam for 20-30 minutes.

With the mixture warm, add in the gelatine and mix until dissolved. Check packet instructions as some jelly/gelatine can vary depending on what type is used.

Strain to remove the orange slices and spices.

Pour into moulds and allow to cool then let set in the fridge for at least 4 hours or until set.

Healthy swaps/tips

  • Don’t add gelatine to boiling mixture as this can prevent it from setting properly.
  • Make it vegan by using vegan gelatine or agar agar.
  • Not a fan of pomegranate or cranberry juice, swap them for red grape juice and apple juice.
