Mental health option

When you’re running a business, you want your employees to flourish in their roles, not suffer in silence if life becomes a struggle. Today, we know that people often have problems with their mental health, so looking after your employees' minds with health insurance, as well as their bodies, is more important than ever.

With the Mental Health option in place, you’ll show your business commitment to supporting mental health. And you’ll be able to help your staff start feeling like themselves again, whether they need counselling, psychologial therapy, or psychiatric treatment in a private hospital (cover may be subject to medical history).

Supporting mental health in the workplace

  • Your employees can talk confidentially to an expert without any fuss. As soon as stress, anxiety or depression takes hold, they just need to call our Stronger Minds* team to arrange an assessment.
  • Our approved network of counsellors and psychologists span the UK and have been carefully selected to support our members.
  • If counselling is recommended, our Stronger Minds team will arrange face-to-face or remote sessions – whatever feels right.
  • There’s no need for them to take time out for a GP appointment – our Stronger Minds team can book an appointment with a counsellor or psychologist who will listen to their concerns and guide them to the right support.
  • If your employee has a complex condition, or their treatment plan needs to be revised, our Stronger Minds team will be there to guide them, ensuring they’re comfortable with every decision that’s made to help them get well.

*Our Stronger Minds service is available to members aged 18 and over.

Talking to an expert to reduce the worry

Mental health

Anne is 39 and is part of a team of 12 other recruitment consultants. Recently, Anne has been feeling depressed and has found it increasingly difficult to sleep at night. As a recruitment consultant, her role is highly target-focussed. She’s been lacking energy, feeling exhausted and falling short of her targets at work, which is adding to her stress.

Anne has a very honest and open relationship with her manager and confides in her during their next catch up. Anne’s manager reminds her that she has access to mental health support as part of their business health insurance. This means that she doesn’t need a GP referral – she can simply call the Stronger Minds team to start receiving help and support.

On her lunch break, Anne calls the Stronger Minds team and books a call to speak to a counsellor that afternoon at a time that suits her. The counsellor listens attentively and immediately Anne starts to feel better about things. They subsequently agree a plan that includes 5 sessions of remote counselling which is more convenient for Anne to attend than face to face sessions. Taking this first step already makes Anne feel brighter for the first time in a long while and getting here has been easier than she expected it to be – thanks to the Mental Health option.

What this option will pay for

  • Counselling sessions: face-to-face or remote counselling through our Stronger Minds service, helping your employees get the help they need faster.
  • Outpatient treatment: specialist consultations for psychiatric treatment, or psychiatric treatment by a psychologist or cognitive behavioural therapists.
  • Care in hospital: private psychiatric treatment fees, including accommodation and diagnostic tests at any of the hospitals or day-patient units in our Directory of Hospitals.
