Clare Bowden
Registered general nurse
24/7 health support line
I'm a registered general nurse with over 30 years of experience in the NHS. I began my career at Walsgrave Hospital in Coventry—where I also trained as a nurse—gaining invaluable hands-on experience in stroke rehabilitation and elderly care. I then worked at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital, focusing on nuclear medicine and orthopaedics.
In 2002, I transitioned into general practice nursing, initially balancing my role with raising my young family. As my children grew, I took on greater responsibilities and advanced to the position of senior general practice nurse. Throughout my career, I have enjoyed the variety and challenges of primary care, with particular interests in women’s health, asthma management, and the treatment of chronic and acute wounds. I also served as a tissue viability ambassador.
I enjoyed the dynamic nature of my work—from ear irrigation and contraception to children’s immunisations, traumatic wound care, and travel health advice. I found fulfilment in the diverse daily opportunities to support and care for patients.
Outside of work, I love spending quality time with my family—including my beloved dog, Muddy. My children are now grown, but they keep me busy and joyful. In my free time, I enjoy reading and walking along the beach near my home.
I hope I bring experience and a compassionate approach to my role as a health information nurse at AXA. I enjoy offering support and time to members and appreciate working alongside a fabulous team of professionals.
