Workplace flu vaccinations that help protect your employees throughout the winter flu season

Flu can affect people of all ages regardless of general health and fitness. It can spread rapidly through coughing, sneezing and contact with infected surfaces. So, alongside good hygiene practices, vaccination is a simple and effective way of helping to safeguard your employees against the flu each winter and keeping your business fit and well too.

Boots have determined the lifespan of their 2024 corporate flu vouchers based on recommendations by the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) who have shared evidence that shows the flu vaccine’s effectiveness can decrease over time in adults. It’s therefore preferable to vaccinate individuals closer to the time when the flu virus is likely to circulate (which typically peaks in December or January of the following year).

A review by Boots of previous seasons has also shown that nearly 90% of Boots Corporate Flu patients are vaccinated before the end of November.

Therefore, the Boots Corporate Flu Voucher will be available for use from the end of September 2024 through to the end of November 2024 (up to and including 30 November) when it will expire. This will support individuals who receive a flu vaccination in the optimum risk period and help reduce the impact of employee absence due to flu.

Boots have advised that they will be providing additional clinics during this time to support demand.

Your employees will be given access to an online booking portal, where their details and booking will be managed by our preferred third-party provider, Boots Pharmacy.

For the most up-to-date information on who is and who is not included in the government rollout of flu vaccinations this flu season, go to the relevant government website for more information.

Whilst having the flu is usually unpleasant and self-limiting illness with recovery generally within a week, the aim of vaccination is to reduce the incidence of severe illness from flu for at-risk groups. Age, pregnancy, caring responsibilities and underlying medical conditions may mean individuals should consider vaccination.

For more information, please refer to the Government's recommendations on flu vaccination.

Seasonal flu vaccinations may be considered a minor benefit and are exempt from tax as a benefit in kind. However, we recommend checking and agreeing the tax treatment with your HMRC contact.
