Banana Oat Cookies

These cookies are a great alternative as they contain less fat and sugar compared to normal cookies!

Nutritional highlights

These cookies are low in fat, saturates and salt, meaning they are heart healthy! Too much saturated fat in our diet can lead to increased cholesterol levels and this can increase our chances of heart disease as the cholesterol can build up in our arteries. Too much salt in our diet can lead to increased blood pressure which is a risk for heart disease. This means these cookies are a much healthier option to regular cookies!

Ingredients list

Makes 15 servings
Preparation time: 10 minutes
Cooking time: 20 minutes
  • 2 tsp cinnamon
  • 165g oats
  • 2 ripe bananas

Method

Preheat the oven to 180C. 

Peel the banana and mash with a fork and then mix in the oats and cinnamon. 

Line an oven tray with parchment paper and place 15 cookies onto the tray from the mixture. Press the cookies down a little before putting into the oven. 

Bake for 15-20 minutes but regularly check them during the last 5 minutes to ensure they dont burn. 

Remove from the oven and let them cool on a cooling rack, once they've cooled down, they are ready to eat!

Healthy swaps/tips

  • Not a fan of cinnamon? Why not use other spices like ginger. 
  • Why not add in some raisins to make raisin banana cookies. 
  • Use a tablespoon as a guide for each cookie.
