Osteopath vs chiropractor vs steroid injection

Hi, please can you help. I have been booked into have steroid injections in my neck as have pain in my neck when sitting/driving - every day. I had lots of appointments with an Osteopath but this did not really work. Many people have suggested I see a Chiropractor before having my injections to see if I can solve the issue without injections - can you please let me know what you suggest? thanks

Thank you for writing to us, we're sorry to hear that you are suffering with pain in your neck.

It’s important to understand the differences, or similarities, between an osteopath and chiropractor. An osteopath takes a more holistic approach to their work. They look at the body as a whole and use this knowledge to assist with the problem. A chiropractor will try to resolve the same problem by focusing on the spine and neck. They are both recognized in the UK as Complementary or Alternative Medicines (CAM) and, as such, have their value.

Paying attention to the affected area you report, it’s important to know that the value of these CAM decreases as you travel up the spine, to put it simply. Lower back problems have shown scientific improvement to some degree but, for the neck area, these have shown to be rather inconclusive.

Ultimately you are the one who needs to make this decision as you have to feel comfortable deciding on your treatment pathway. There is no right or wrong and just as some people report that an Osteopath works for neck problems you have the same amount saying a Chiropractor does as well. Ultimately the only method with empirical, hard evidence is the steroid injections.
